The story commences on a busy intersection of a small city where a homeless man and his beloved dog are stationed to solicit money and food from passing motorists. One day, the homeless man’s dog is killed and he is visibly distraught. Seeing this inspires a woman and her son to befriend the homeless man.

Carol Tredway is a 38 year old widow with a son named Travis. Her husband was killed 2 years prior in an automobile accident. She has always been weary of homeless people and is very protective with Travis. Travis is a typical 10 year old American boy. He has a good heart and a typical boyish curiosity. He is very close to his mom since his dad died.

 

Events lead up to climax where it seems Carol’s fears are justified when the homeless man barges into her bedroom. However, her fear then transcends to raw emotion when the homeless man divulges something to her that makes them all realize that the homeless man is actually her father-in-law, whom she had never met since he was estranged to her late husband.
